WEATHER
Year 55, Scorching Sands 09.05.2019 → The temperatures of the islands are a steady 98° F on land/ high 80s in water. There is almost no breeze, the sun is uncomfortably warm.
Prey during the day is pretty scarce due to the heat, however is quite active after the sun goes down.
Lost in the dense jungles of scattered islands, facing perils unimagined by their ancestors, are three warrior groups - The traditional JungleClan, descendants of the original clans carried aboard a twoleg contraption from their home long ago and breaking new ground on old beliefs. Second, the curious TidalClan, made up of kittypets who chose to abandon their long since passed twoleg civilization ways for those of true felines. Lastly, the mysterious Tribe of Twisted Roots, hidden in the mist from others with their strange ways and a deeper knowledge of the land around them. Together they must learn how to take their fate into their own paws if they wish to survive this land of erupting mountains and roaring waters.
Join our crew and dive into an island-based Warriors roleplay - a twist on the original series by Erin Hunter. We are a semi-literate site with a minimum of 100 words per post.
Upon the death of the Commander, the Quartermaster and a patrol of trustworthy witnesses including the current Witch will travel to the base of Firebelly Mountain. There any cat wishing to challenge for the position of commander may do so. The Quartermaster must then spar with this challenger to prove their worth. If the Quartermaster falls in battle the winning challenger will instead ascend to Commander and decide the fate of the defeated feline. However, challenges are rare and typically the Quartermaster ascends to Commander with no complaints. Once a cat is chosen to ascend to Commander, they must then climb the Firebelly Mountain and peer into its depths to commune with their Island Gods and receive their lives. Upon their return to the Tribe, it is the Witch’s duty to announce them to the rest of the Tribe with the words:
“[Commander name] has answered the challenge and returns to the Tribe of Twisted Roots with the blessings of the Gods of Life, Water, and Death. May their leadership be as strong as those who came before them.”
Quartermaster Ceremony
Once the new Commander has been established, a Quartermaster must be chosen as soon as possible. After a return to camp, three experienced navigators will be chosen by the Commander as worthy candidates for succession. A battle between the three is initiated, and the last one standing will be crowned the new Quartermaster. Though not required to fight to the death, it is not unheard of for combatants to receive injuries or worse during the altercation.
Witch Ceremony
Witches are often regarded as some of the more mysterious members of the Tribe due to their shared connection with the Gods. Their training may be longer than that of a regular Swabbie; any littermates may be a Navigator for several moons before their sibling becomes a full Witch. Once training is completed, however, the ceremony commences much as their apprenticeship one did - at the base of Firebelly mountain, with their mentor speaking the words:
“[Swabbie name here], you have completed your training in both healing and interpretation of the dreams the Gods bless you with. From this day forward, the Gods of Life, Water, and Death recognize you as a Witch.”
Witch Swabbie Ceremony
Witch swabbie are not chosen by any living feline. Instead, the Tenderfoot who will follow in the Witch’s pawsteps will receive dreams unlike those of their littermates, being more prophetic in nature. The Witch will be informed by the Gods as well, and will then in turn select the Tenderfoot to train under them rather than allow them to become a Navigator Swabbie. The ceremony to become a Witch’s swabbie takes place at the foot of Firebelly mountain, where the Witch speaks the words
“[Tenderfoot name here], you have been chosen by the Gods to serve the Tribe as both a healer and bringer of omens. May they walk in your dreams for all your days.”
Navigator Ceremony
Once a Swabbie has endured the Trial of the Island of Shadows (Surviving a night alone on the forbidden territory), they have proven themselves worthy to become a Navigator. They shall sit beneath the Root Cluster with their Navigator as witness as the Commander speaks the words:
“Gods of Life, Death, and Water, hear my decree. [Name of Swabbie] is declared worthy in your eyes, and vows to serve the Tribe of Twisted Roots in honor of you for the rest of their days.”
Upon completion of these words, a Swabbie must then “make their mark” - Scratch the roots of the cluster to signify leaving one stage of life for another.
Swabbie Ceremony
Tenderfoots leaving the nursery to join the ranks of the Swabbies is no small feat. It is an important stage of life where the Gods officially “recognize” the life of the youngest and, as such, much be acknowledged. When a litter is ready, they will gather beneath the Root Cluster and be assigned a Navigator by the Commander with these words,
“Until they are ready to join the Navigators, [Tenderfoot name] will learn the ways of our Tribe from [Navigator’s name]. May the Gods of Life, Water, and Death guide your path, little one.”
The Tenderfoot will leave their litter to sit by their Navigator in the crowd once the words are spoken, effectively finishing the ceremony.
Guide Ceremony
After many moons of serving, the few cats of the Tribe lucky enough to reach Guide status must be recognized. If one decides to retire, Gods willing, a celebration will be thrown in their honor the eve of retirement where the Tribe both feasts and regales each other with stories and tales of the elderly feline’s achievements.
Tribe Meeting
Should a Commander need to speak with the Tribe, he will summon them from the top of the Root Cluster with these words, “Let all members recognized by the Gods gather to hear my words.”
TidalClan is unique in their ceremonies, but have adapted them a little to have a similar structure as JungleClan's. That being said, there are some large differences especially in how ranks are appointed.
Once a Chief dies, the law is that the Deputy is to take their place at the head of the clan. The ritual to become the next chief is a bit of a test of strength and courage, as it requires sacrificing yourself to the God of Shrieking Storms to prove your worthiness. This sacrifice includes being drowned by the Healer off of the Drowning Dock reciting the sacred words. The chosen chief will be drowned and brought back to life by the healer, and once they are revived they are given their three lives. However, some do not survive this ceremony. If a chosen chief is not able to be resuscitated by the healer, it is a sign from the God of Shrieking Storms that they were not worthy and the clan holds an election within one evening to determine the next chosen chief.
Healer: “Bless this disciple with the strength of Shrieking Storms. Should they not be worthy of your gift, take them as an offering so that the rightful chief may lead TidalClan.” Deputy/Chosen Chief: “I give myself to the ocean so the God of Shrieking Storms may bless my path. May what is drowned shall once more walk upon the sands.”
If the ceremony is successful, the Healer: “The drowned has risen again, may their strength and courage lead us forward.”
If the ceremony is not successful, the Healer: “The God of Shrieking Storms has spoken. May TidalClan thank (insert deputy/chosen chief name) for their sacrifice to the Gods on behalf of the clan, their courage shall never be forgotten. The election shall commence one evening from now.”
Deputy Ceremony
The deputy is chosen by the chief solely. Deputies are usually chosen from senior Fighters and must be able to prove themselves worthy to one day lead the clan. To prove that they are worthy and become deputy, the chosen cat must complete a quest that is given to them by the chief. This quest is unique to the cat and usually tests a weakness they have as determined by the chief. This is so the chosen deputy can prove that they can overcome anything to serve their clan. Should the quest be completed, the chief proceeds with the deputy naming ceremony.
Upon successful completion of the quest, the Leader: “I say these words so that the three Gods of our Island may approve of my choice. You have completed the quest to overcome (insert weakness here). May the Gods bless your path as you walk along the sands.”
Healer Ceremony
A healer is chosen at a young age after being carefully watched. They are selected when they display a keen interest in healing techniques or have a knowledge of plants. Generally the Healer that is currently serving the clan chooses their apprentice, but sometimes the Chief may give their thoughts on the candidate.
When it is time for the apprentice to move into a full Healer position there is a special ceremony. The Chief gathers the clan for a meeting and speaks the sacred words. “You have completed the trials and tribulations of training as a Healer. Your destiny is to serve TidalClan, and the time has come. May the God of Shrieking Storms bless your path and give you strength.”
Healer Apprentice Ceremony
The apprentice is chosen by the Healer and or the Chief. Generally they are handpicked for the position and once selected begin rigorous training. Healer apprentices do not have time for much else but their training and are encouraged to put aside family and friendships to serve the clan.
Once the chosen apprentice has been selected the clan is gathered and they are given their title by the Healer (or the Chief in the event there is no Healer for some reason). “We call upon the God of Shrieking Storms today to offer (name) as the new Healer apprentice. They have taken on the heavy burden of sacrificing their destiny to the duty of the clan. Thank you for your sacrifice.”
Fighter Ceremony
When a Fledgling is of age to serve the clan as a Fighter, there is a brief ceremony thanking them for their training and continued service to the clan. The Chief will call the clan together and give the Fledgling their Fighter name.
“I, (Chief name), call upon the three Gods to bless this Fledgling. They have trained hard to earn their Fighter name. (Fledgling), do you promise to serve and protect your clan, even if it may come at the sacrifice of your own life?”
Fledgling Ceremony
When a Kit is of age to become a Fledgling and begin training, there is a brief ceremony.
“(Kit), you have reached the chosen age, and it is time for you to become a Fledgling. Your mentor will be (name of cat). (mentor name) is an honourable member of TidalClan and I know they will pass along the necessary skills for you to become a Fighter. You shall be known as (Fledgling name) from now on.”
Elder Ceremony
Once a Fighter has reached an age where they can not serve their clan in the fully capacity they retire and are protected by the rest of the clan. They are given excellent treatment as they dedicated their entire lives to the clan. A small ceremony is held to publicly thank the elders for their service.
“Thank you, (name), for serving TidalClan and the three Gods. We thank you for your service and hope you will continue to bestow your wisdom upon us.”
Clan Meeting
When the leader would like to hold a meeting they will do a call to the clan. "Gather all who are old enough to catch their own prey for a clan meeting!"
When it is time for another cat to take on the mantle of Leader of JungleClan, there are a few steps they must take. First, the fallen leader must be properly recognized as dead, through a night-long vigil held by the up and coming leader and any other cats close to the fallen. On the morning of the vigil, the leader-to-be will ascend the mountain and enter into the Cave of Twinkling Stars alongside the current medicine cat. Within the cave, the leader-to-be will ingest one of the many glow worms within the cave, and fall into a deep slumber that lasts three days. They will gain one life a day (totalling to three) from StarClan. If this ceremony is interrupted in any way, they may not obtain all of their lives. During this time, the medicine cat will sit vigil outside the cave, only leaving to hunt for food if necessary, though it is advised that a patrol is sent to fulfill this need. Once the new leader has awoken from their three-day long slumber, the medicine cat will escort them back to camp and announce them as the new leader. “After undergoing a three day long trial under the paws of StarClan to prove their worth, (Insert name) has earned the title of Insertnamestar. May their reign be (insert blessing here)!”
Deputy Ceremony
When a new deputy is ready to be selected, a two day festival will take place. During each day, a separate contest will be held - decided upon by the current leader. At the end of the second day, the new deputy will be chosen and announced to the Clan in a short ceremony held at the Rockpile.
“I say these words before StarClan, so that the spirits of our warrior ancestors (or former deputy name) may hear and approve of my choice. The new deputy of JungleClan is (warrior's name).”
Medicine Cat Ceremony
A medicine cat apprentice will be appointed to a full-fledged medicine cat when the current medicine cat of the Clan believes them to be ready. If there is no medicine cat to approve of this transition, it will be decided upon by the current leader in tandem with StarClan. The medicine cat apprentice will travel to the Cave of Twinkling Stars, where they will convene with StarClan. The following words are traditionally said, however the Medicine Cat: I, (name), medicine cat of JungleClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. (He/she) has trained hard to understand the ways of a medicine cat, and with your help (he/she) will serve (his/her) Clan for many moons. Medicine Cat: ___paw, do you promise to uphold the ways of a medicine cat, to stand apart from rivalry between Clan and Clan and to protect all cats equally, even at the cost of your life? Apprentice: I do. Medicine Cat: Then by the powers of StarClan I give you your true name as a medicine cat. ___paw, from this moment you will be known as (new name). StarClan honors your (virtues), and we welcome you as a full medicine cat of JungleClan. After this ceremony, they will each ingest a glow worm from the cave, and sleep beneath their light to confer with StarClan. In the event of there being no medicine cat to speak the words, this ceremony can be done by members of StarClan.
Medicine Cat Apprentice Ceremony
Once a cat has been chosen to become a medicine cat apprentice, they will journey to the Cave of Twinkling Stars and the following words are traditionally said: Medicine cat: (Apprentice), is it your wish to enter the mysteries of StarClan as a medicine cat? Apprentice: It is. Medicine cat: Then come forward. Medicine cat: Warriors of StarClan, I present you with this apprentice. They chosen the path of a medicine cat. Grant them your wisdom and insight so that they may understand your ways and heal their Clan in accordance with your will. Following this short ceremony, the two will eat the glow worms along the cave wall, and rest beneath their light to confer with StarClan.
Warrior Ceremony
An apprentice is deemed worthy of becoming a warrior after completing a trial set by their mentor and being reviewed by the leader and/or deputy of the Clan. The following words are traditionally said before the Clan in a meeting held at the Rockpile to appoint the new warrior(s). Leader: I, (Leader), leader of JungleClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. They have trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend them to you as a warrior in their turn. Leader: (Apprentice), do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life? Apprentice: I do. Leader: Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. (Apprentice), from this moment on you will be known as (new warrior name). StarClan honors your (virtues), and we welcome you as a full warrior of JungleClan.
Apprentice Ceremony
When a kit comes of age to become an apprentice, the following words are traditionally spoken at the Rockpile: Leader: (Kit), you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as (new name, ending with "paw"). Your mentor will be (name of warrior or medicine cat). I hope (name of warrior or medicine cat) will pass down all he/she knows on to you. The leader calls up the warrior he/she has chosen as a mentor. Leader: (Warrior), you are ready to take on an apprentice. You have received excellent training from (former mentor), and you have shown yourself to be (quality) and (quality). You will be the mentor of (apprentice), and I expect you to pass on all you know to (apprentice).
Elder Ceremony
When a cat is ready to retire to the Elder’s den for any reason, the following words are traditionally spoken at the Rockpile: Leader: (Warrior/queen/medicine cat), is it your wish to give up the name of a warrior and go to join the elders? Warrior/queen/medicine cat: It is. Leader: Your Clan honors you and all the service you have given to us. I call upon StarClan to give you many moons of rest.

The Island has its own unique prefixes and suffixes. While JungleClan originated from the original four Clans and brought over some traditional names, there are also unique Island names that can be used when naming your character. Here is a complete list of the island name suggestions categorized by each group and what is native to their territories.
Keep in mind that JungleClan is able to use traditional prefixes and suffixes, or a mixture of traditional and island. TidalClan is more likely to lean towards the Island list of names.
The Tribe of Twisted Roots follows their own naming convention and would name their kits based on Island objects around them.
The naming conventions of the Kingdom of Mokuhau has roots in those of the traditional clans. However, time and twisted tales have distorted the original traditions - while similar to that of a warrior, a member of the Kingdom carries a two-part name drawn from nature. You must use no more than two words. Some examples could be: Hawk Wing or Hawk’s Wing, Dappled Sunlight, Billowing Breeze, Glimmering Amethyst, etc.
• Call • Cry • Fin • Flipper • Foam • Gill • Hop • Howl • Leap • Pool • Root • Screech • Skip • Song • Splash • Storm • Wave
Tribe of Twisted Roots
The Tribe of Twisted Roots follows the same sort of naming convention that the Tribe of Rushing Water follows in the Warriors series. Example: Palm Leaf that sways in Wind.

The main island is Kahiko Keys which is home to JungleClan, TidalClan and the Kingdom of Mokuhau, as well as some neutral lands. There is a small stretch of land that is visible when the tide is the lowest leading to Paradise Peninsula off of the main island.
Pirate Port Isle is the large island where the Tribe of Twisted Roots calls home. Their territories also encompasses Emberpath Island and the Island of Shadows.
Maluhia Coast and Balmy Bay Island are the two largest unclaimed islands in the Sapphire Sea. Nobody really knows who lurks there, so travel with your wits about you if you dare to. There could always be Castaways or Raiders hiding there.
Here you can find the current going-ons of the island cats! While our overarching plot may remain the same for an extended period of time, please check back here frequently to get updates on faction specific plots! Leaders will be updating this often to include new and interesting events that are going on with their faction that you can participate in.
OVERARCHING PLOT
For many moons, each group of island cats has existing peacefully within its own borders. Shared bloodlines between TidalClan and JungleClan have kept them friendly generation after generation. However, with limited territory and prey to go around, will rising tensions pull these clans apart despite their deep roots? Or will loyalty and friendship prevail over the hardships of life on the island?
FACTION PLOTS
JUNGLECLAN Tensions with TidalClan have been unusually high, and rumbles of displeasure within the clan are starting to grow louder.
TIDALCLAN Tensions with JungleClan have been unusually high, and rumbles of displeasure within the clan are starting to grow louder.
TRIBE OF TWISTED ROOTS Tucked away on the outer islands, the Tribe has been watching the clan cats for countless moons. Will they take advantage of the situation and seize territory? Or will they aid those in need?
Tales of ancestors living within the stars and the lands around them have been passed down from elder to kit in an endless cycle. Paw over paw, whisper to whisper, every cat knows of the mighty powers that rule these skies. However, though these legends share similar roots, each faction or group has its own personal views on the Gods and the afterlife. For further information over individual beliefs and details about the Gods themselves, please refer below.
OVERARCHING VIEWS
Any information that is the same between the groups. Extra Lives: Faction leaders are given three lives from their ancestors upon ascending. Each group has differing reasons for the limited number of lives gifted to them. Please refer to their respective sections for more information.
RELIGIOUS FIGURES
Although the large cats that inhabit the lands are vicious, brutal enemies of the island cats during life, once they ascend to the afterlife they become their celestial guides. They deliver lives to the leaders, and omens to those who follow in the pawsteps of medicine cats or witches, alongside the cat’s ancestors. The Gods of the Islands have more power than the ancestors due to their longevity and deep-rooted history with the land. However, aside from the two basics functions, they are fairly paws-off in the dealings of the day to day life of the cats. The exception to this rule is with the Tribe cats, who have the closest bond with the Island Gods.
TIGER GOD:
Common Names: God of Shrieking Storms (Tidal), the God of Water (Tribe), or the Star God (Jungle). Description: This sleek-pelted large feline appears in dreams often with a dark pelt that has stars speckled through it in the shape of stripes.
PANTHER GOD:
Common Names: Goddess of Soothing Skies (Tidal), the Goddess of Death (Tribe), or the Moon Goddess (Jungle). Description: This dark-pelted feline will often appear bearing fur black as night with piercing white eyes.
LEOPARD GOD:
Common Names: God of Scorching Sands (Tidal), the God of Fire (Tribe), or the Sun God (Jungle). Description: This spotted-pelted feline is slightly smaller than its counterparts, yet stands out with flames encompassing its paws.
STARCLAN:
The belief that many clan cats have held for countless generations is that upon death, one joins their celestial ancestors among the stars in what is known as Silverpelt. From above, these long-gone felines guide their descendants through omens and dreams given to those who walk the path of leader and medicine cat. Though they have followed the clan cats across the sea, they are not the reigning power on the islands. That belongs solely to the Gods, though the trio is gracious enough to allow them to remain.
INDIVIDUAL FACTION VIEWS
JUNGLECLAN The cats of the Jungle relate back to their roots for their views on religion. They carried over their belief in StarClan from their original home, still retaining a strong sense of their actions holding weight after death. Their ancestors still visit them in dreams and offer up omens to the medicine cats of the Clan, communicating to them anything of importance. However, after several moons of living on the island, they have become aware of the Sun God, the Moon Goddess, and the Star God through their communications with the medicine cat. They do not hold them as in high regard as their neighbors, but they do respect the larger ancestral cats for their power. Since arriving on the island, they have been only given 3 lives from their ancestors, as dictated by the Gods who determine where power will go within their domain. This ritual is known as The Awakening.
TIDALCLAN The beach-dwelling felines of TidalClan worship the gods of weather: the God of Shrieking Storms, the Goddess of Soothing Skies, and the God of Scorching Sands as they believe they have full power over the seasons and other intricacies of life. As part of their worship, they leave offerings at the Dock of Fortune to try and “appease the gods” and gain their favor. They are aware of StarClan due to the influence of JungleClan’s arrival, but their current relationship with the ancestors is unknown. Although they believe in an afterlife and in their actions affecting its outcome, they place their faith more in the Weather Gods. They receive their lives from the Gods at their place of worship in a ritual known as The Resurgence.
TRIBE OF TWISTED ROOTS Having been there the longest, the Tribe has the strongest relationship with the three Island Gods. Calling them the God of Water, the Goddess of Death, and the God of Fire, respectively, leaders will receive a life from each upon proving they are worthy of the position at Firebelly Mountain. The God of Fire, believed to be represented by the semi-dormant volcano, is worshipped more fervently than the others due to sheer power. The God of Water is present in the seas and is regarded as the most temperamental. The Goddess of Death, holding power over the Island of Shadows, is to be both respected and feared, though is widely considered the “darkest” of the gods. While the Tribe is aware of StarClan due to their Gods, they do not revere them as the clan cats do; they are merely accepted as lesser ancestors and powers.
Year 1, Shrieking Storms: The first group of island cats shipwreck due to a hurricane. The crew that was aboard the shipwreck were pirates, which serves as the inspiration for their later rituals, traditions, and names.
Year 15, Scorching Sands: The volcano erupts, scorching the lands and billowing up massive clouds of smoke and ash. The current twolegs of the shipwreck on the island are unable to survive the following environmental changes; however, the cats survive by seeking shelter within a nearby mangrove island.
Year 16, Soothing Skies: The Island Gods introduce themselves to the survivors of the volcanic eruption. Under their guidance, this group of cats forms into the Tribe of Twisted Roots, named for the Mangroves that both saved and sheltered them.
Year 30, Soothing Skies: A second ship of twolegs arrive, seeking to make the islands their home in a colony. They make landfall on another island, hoping to avoid the rocky shore that has caused wrecks in the past. With them they bring different species (such as livestock, dogs, and various plants) that are not native to the area. Brought along as mousers and pets for the twolegs are more cats, introducing new bloodlines to the area. The Tribe, wary of outsiders, avoids these newcomers by retreating to the outer islands.
Year 40, Shrieking Storms: An impending storm broaches the horizon, causing panic within the small twoleg town. In their haste to evacuate the deadly onslaught, the majority of their belongings, including their pets, are abandoned on the islands. Though some twolegs stayed behind, their lives were lost in the following torrential flooding. Their animals, however, were able to seek higher ground for shelter and thus survived the storm.
Year 41, Soothing Skies: A small fishing boat, carrying stores of fish and a pair of sailors who got lost in the storm, shipwrecks on the main island where the kittypets are struggling to survive. Aboard this vessel are four cats hailing from various walks of life: A warrior, an apprentice, a medicine cat apprentice, and a loner. Desperate for prey in a sparse season for the too-large clans and loners, the cats climbed aboard the ship that later took off, sending them much too far away from home to return. Though initially wary of the kittypets, the clan cats eventually take pity on them and teach the ways of true survival.
Year 41, Scorching Sands: Working together to survive this harsh environment that had taken the remaining twolegs’ lives, the clan cats teach the kittypets the ways of the clans, their ancestors, and their warrior code. To mark their new life, they take the name TidalClan, in honor of the events that brought them all together.
Year 45, Soothing Skies: Though there was peace for several moons, internal conflict would drive a wedge between clan members. While some cats wanted to explore the unknown and claim more territory, others believed it best to stay close to their roots. One group became two as the tension rose to unbearable levels, with half of the clan’s felines seeking out territory in the yet-unexplored jungle, and the other half claiming the abandoned twoleg town for themselves. Led by the original clan cats is the newly-formed JungleClan, making their home amongst the thick undergrowth while the remainder of TidalClan continues their lives along the settled coast. Over time both groups have developed independently of each other, taking on different traditions and ways of thinking.
Year 50, Scorching Sands: The previously dormant volcano awakens once more, blanketing the islands with heavy smoke and, combined with rising waters which result in several casualties, forces the exploring JungleClan to cease expeditions off the main island. They settle not far from the original TidalClan, where tensions remain strained yet civil to this day.
Welcome to our Dice Battle System! On Chasing Dusk, we pride ourselves on having a fair system for determining the outcome of battles. This post will be your go-to for all things battle related.
DEFENSE
Defense = 10 + Modifier Chasing Dusk’s combat system is based on your character’s Defense, and you rolling a dice to see if you hit your opponent. Our system is based on a d20, or a twenty-sided die. Your character’s defense is determined by taking a standard base of 10 and then adding the modifier from the table that matches your character’s current age. Your character’s defense will change as they age, so pay close attention to the table!
ATTACK
Attack = 1d20 + Modifier vs Opponent’s Defense When your character wants to attempt to attack another character, you must roll an attack roll using a d20 (in your post, you can use the code below). You will also add the same modifier you use for your defense, to the result of your dice roll. The result of both your d20 roll in addition to your modifier gives you your total for your attack roll. If your total for your attack roll is the same number as the character you are trying to attack’s defense or a higher number than it, you land the hit! If it is lower than your opponent’s defense, you miss! In simpler terms, if your attack roll total meets or beats the Defense of your opponent, you hit!
MODIFIER TABLE
Please pay attention to the negative and positive signs, these dictate whether you add or subtract your modifier! If you believe your character should have a lower modifier to more accurately represent an injury or a disability, you are welcome to lower the modifier. However, you cannot raise the assigned modifier for any reason.

RULES
01. How to Win: The first cat to successfully hit their opponent 3 times wins! At the end, when one cat has reached 3 hits - the loser will get to choose if they want their character to retreat, surrender, or be killed! The loser will respond with what they would like to happen, and the posting order will resume until it has come to a reasonable conclusion.
02. Attacks as Attempts: All attacks must be made as attempts! This is to allow the responding character a chance to decide how their cat takes the hit and then recovers from it - or how they dodge the incoming blow. However, be reasonable about the attacks your character does take, do not baby your character.
03. One Attack Per Post: You are limited to one attack per post. This is to keep things fair between all members.
04. Play Nice: No attack can intend to target an artery, to break a bone, or to cause serious permanent damage unless agreed upon by both parties. Any serious injury agreed upon by all participating parties before the battle occurs must be detailed/stated in the form. Bear in mind: Serious injuries may end the fight early or result in lowered defense. (Staff may step in at this point if the fight seems illogical).
05. Must Include: During a battle, you must post a separate post following your roleplay post with your character's defense, and if they are attacking, you must also include the attack roll using the site’s dice roller. (See ‘Attack’ above for more information.) These must be in a separate post following your roleplay post in order to prevent dice roll tampering. If you delete the post and then attempt to re-post it in order to get a different outcome, we will be able to view that within the site's security log.
06. Battle Training Threads: In the case of battle training threads, we still require these dice rules to be used. However, you can phrase your attacks as being non-lethal, and very obviously intended for training purposes as opposed to a true battle.
07. Staff Moderation: All battles will be moderated by a staff member to ensure that all rules are being followed and the attacks that are happening are reasonable. Please post a comment on this thread using the form below once a battle has begun so a staff member can be assigned to moderate it. Once a staff member has been assigned, please remember to tag them in all posts relating to the battle thread as well as the thread itself. If you have any issues with the outcome of the battle or how it is currently being handled if on-going, please refer to the staff member assigned for resolution.
