bayfur
tidalclan ∙ fighter ∙ male ∙ eighteen moons
Appearance
Description sentence:
a pale spotted tabby tom with amber eyes
Appearance:
Bayfur is a committed member of his Clan, and is often so active the thought of eating rarely crosses his mind. As a result, Bayfur is skinnier than most of his Clanmates, and is often the first to go hungry when there are food scarcities. He isn’t undersized, though. His moons with Cactusbloom as a mentor made him muscular, but he’s still nothing spectacular to gawk at. In addition to muscle definition, a few thick scars and a nick in his ear serve as a mark to remember her by.
Bayfur has short, pale tabby fur. He has broken mackerel tabby stripes that resemble spots dotting along his fur. He has yellow-green eyes.

Personality:
Bayfur's parents were made for each other, but they were not nurturing folk. Bayfur grew up knowing that needs were not a priority, and with it came deep feelings of helplessness. Early on in life, he learned how to push the right buttons to make others love him the way he wanted. Even as he grew older, he became resentful when cats couldn't figure him out.
See, unlike most cats, Bayfur grew up analyzing others -- and it hurt to not have that same energy spent on him. He has learned to catch the slightest signs of rejection, and those signs hurt on a deep emotional level. He doesn't hesitate to make his affections known, and has learned to catch the slightest sign of rejection. He desperately wants to make others like him, and bends over backwards for peer approval. Those who aren't alarmed by the intense way he takes to others will find a good friend.
Bayfur may behave like he's over-compensating for something, but he isn't a bad guy. Behind the masks, he's as hard working as ever, and a stickler for routine. He tries not to show how concerned he is for his friends, and hides his anxiety with pushiness and snarky jabs.

Character Background
Family:
Gullstream, mother [ alive, npc ]
Ospreycloud, father [ alive, npc ]
History:
“Something is wrong with Gullstream,” the elders whispered. Baykit always wondered what was wrong with her, and wondered if he would catch it too. She took more naps than he did, and when she wasn’t sleeping she was getting angry about something. It took a lot of trial and error to get his mother’s neutral attention - and by the time he figured it out, he learned it wasn’t worth it. He was already full up on disappointment and shame, and it was easier to let it go.
His wasn’t the only oddball litter, and Baykit staved off his loneliness by playing with Smallkit (martin ) and Budkit. They were much smaller than him, even though they must’ve been the same age. Baykit played as a leader and protector of his friends, having grown up fast with nobody coddling him. Sometimes, though, he played his role too seriously; one day, he managed to get Smallkit sick after making him eat a pawful of random leaves scattered around camp. Even though the little tom was nowhere near death, the scare taught him to take life more seriously than ever.
By the time Baykit became a fledgling, he knew he was ready. He was full of energy and passion, and was ready to move into a position where he could prove his worth. He would prove to the whole Clan that he deserved to be loved, and that he deserved attention and affection. But his mentor, Cactusbloom (shelby ), had different ideas. She was a powerful and merciless she-cat, and cared little if her claws were in or out while they were training. Ambition turned into despair as his days out in the field were matched equally by days in Turtlehop’s den, trying to treat concussions, infected wounds, and limbs bruised so bad he could barely walk. Before long, the thought of training made Baypaw cower in fear.
By his ninth moon, he had given up. He had given up wanting to live in TidalClan and fight alongside his Clanmates. There was safety in numbers, but Baypaw found he had never found safety here. Sure, he would miss Smallpaw, but… he’d just trespass and find him anyway. That’s what loners did, right? And so he brought his issue to Tinystar (Artemis), trembling all the while. He wanted to confess it proudly and bravely, but it came out like a squeak. And under Tinystar’s stern eye he confessed his intense fear of Cactusbloom. The change was almost immediate; Cactusbloom was promptly kicked from mentoring him, and Tinystar took him on.
The buzz of anxiety was only cured with Turtlehop’s poppy seeds, but Tinystar made a much better mentor than Cactusbloom did. Under the she-cat’s guiding paw, he still harbored a great deal of unspoken anxiety whenever they sparred; when would her claws come out? But they never did, and eventually Baypaw became bolder. His paws fell into a steady rhythm of routine, and he started looking at things from outside his own nervous perspective.
The day Baypaw became Bayfur was just about the happiest day of his life. For a moment, he felt like he glowed; even Cactusbloom’s neutral stare only phased him half as much as normal on that day. And since then, while he still struggles with the normalcy of every day life, he’s glad he’s made it here.
