WEATHER
Year 55, Scorching Sands 09.05.2019 → The temperatures of the islands are a steady 98° F on land/ high 80s in water. There is almost no breeze, the sun is uncomfortably warm.
Prey during the day is pretty scarce due to the heat, however is quite active after the sun goes down.
Lost in the dense jungles of scattered islands, facing perils unimagined by their ancestors, are three warrior groups - The traditional JungleClan, descendants of the original clans carried aboard a twoleg contraption from their home long ago and breaking new ground on old beliefs. Second, the curious TidalClan, made up of kittypets who chose to abandon their long since passed twoleg civilization ways for those of true felines. Lastly, the mysterious Tribe of Twisted Roots, hidden in the mist from others with their strange ways and a deeper knowledge of the land around them. Together they must learn how to take their fate into their own paws if they wish to survive this land of erupting mountains and roaring waters.
Join our crew and dive into an island-based Warriors roleplay - a twist on the original series by Erin Hunter. We are a semi-literate site with a minimum of 100 words per post.
[attr=class, punkisavelighttext]The waves lapped calmly on shore, and the calls from the living forest sounded behind her. Dragonfly stood at the beach on the southern part of the Tribe’s island, staring across the stretch of water to the Island of Shadows. The trees grew so thickly that she couldn’t see anything, though the distance and haze didn’t help either.[break][break]
Only a few clouds dotted the sky, but the air was full of moisture and it left her feeling uncomfortable. Hunting was difficult and led to more of her tribemates hunting at night, which gave her less opportunity to seek solitude. She was forced to find some when the day was most unpleasant, and it left her in an odd mood. The only place she knew she’d find to herself was the beach that bordered the supposedly haunted island, so there she went.[break][break]
She was hard-pressed to believe any of the lore that kept the tribe away, but it didn’t mean that she didn’t stay away… for the most part. A dare with Monarch when she was a swabbie had her swimming there in low tide, and she stayed without telling anyone for a quarter of a day. The island had significant relevance in their history, but a peek through the dense forest yielded nothing that seemed as grand as the tales. She never took the time to actually explore beyond that, in fear of getting lost, but a small part of her was worried about if the tales were actually true.[break][break]
Dragonfly was lost in these memories as her gaze continued to sweep over the island. She walked up to the water after a moment and let the surf wash over her paws. She was torn from her reverie when she realized just how refreshing it was.

The past few moons had been full of harsh and sudden lessons, both for the Tribe and for Tempest. With omens running abound and members not so quietly eying his leadership style with more than a few rumblings, the tom had been anything but carefree. Stress had clung like a second coat that grew heavier with each step, threatening to scald his skin and paws if it got too much hotter.
Which was what had made the normally rough and tumble tom more than willing to take some time for himself, finding himself lost in thought as he headed out and away from camp. A quick word to Monarch before he'd left had sealed the deal; he'd be left alone for a few brief hours. Enough time to collect himself and to reassure his uneasy thoughts that despite the ominous rumbling of thunder above and in the echo of Stingray's nightmare, the Tribe and their territory remained safe.
What he hadn't expected, however, was to find a Tribemate this far out, much less communing with the sea itself.
Pausing in his path as a familiar scent slid his way with the wind, the tom blinked and narrowed his eyes at a figure not too far ahead. Waves lapped at her paws without a care, playful in their siren song that could turn deadly should she choose to give in to the melody.
Something that he didn't think would happen, from what he knew of this she-cat. Still, it was better to be safe than sorry. Picking back up his trot, the commander waited until he drew closer to call out, "You know, you didn't strike me as the type to want to relive their Swabbie trial." After all, the island only a brief swim from them carried hallowed ground and tradition alike and, just for a moment, he could recall his own journey. The sleepless night, watching the shadows and waiting for one to move, a silent battle of wills between his own fear and need to be a navigator.
Perhaps Dragonfly felt the same way? Or was there another reason for her transfixed gaze?
[attr=class, punkisavelighttext]A voice echoed behind her, and Dragonfly tensed for a moment until she placed who it was. Part of her was surprised that someone else would be this far out, but the other part wasn’t given who the voice belonged to.[break][break]
She considered her thoughts before she answered Tempest. They weren’t on her swabbie trial exactly, but it was easy to think back on it upon its reference. It was a methodical event for her, one she wasn’t as excited for as she wished. Early on in her training she learned that the experience of learning would be overshadowed by the need to exceed no matter what—Ocean wanted that, and even Firefly to some extent. She did what she needed to during her trial to make sure she completed it, and there was little pride in it for her by that point. [break][break]
“I don’t think back on it much,” she admitted. “There isn’t much for me to think back on.” Dragonfly turned halfway so she could look at Tempest as well as the sea. “Though I suppose each navigator experiences their trials differently.” She didn’t know much of Tempest’s trial, and it was hard to picture him as a young swabbie struggling through it. She was curious, but she didn’t try to press for information yet.

Drawing alongside the she-cat within a few heartbeats, the tom seemed both surprised and slightly amused at the Navigator's response. Nothing to talk about? It was her Swabbie trial! One of the Tribe's most sacred traditions, the true recognition that their birth dictated in the stars had not placed them in seas too choppy for survival. Swimming out to the lonely island shrouded in mist was a testament to both the cat's skill and dedication, as well as the promise to themselves and those around them that they would give their all to prove themselves worthy.
Of course, not everyone seemed to believe that, nor held themselves to such a standard. What category Dragonfly placed herself in, he didn't know. Perhaps it was high time he found out.
"Were you disappointed with what you found?" Giving her another glance as his own gaze drifted towards both memories and the landmass that seemed so much closer than it had when he was young, Tempest found himself interested in what her reply could possibly be. Had she wanted more from the experience? Had it perhaps not challenged her enough? Had her thoughts been on her littermates and fellow swabbies, wondering if they would survive the night? There were a million possibilities, but only one answer. "They do. Would it be worth doing if we all didn't learn something new from each?"
