[attr="class","tsbody"] Since she was a young apprentice, the one thing that Toucanstar excelled at was her ability to be stealthy. She could slink through the trees, black fur lending her camouflage as she disappeared through shadows, unseen, unheard, and unnoticed. She had set out early in the morning for something she usually didn't do - a slow stroll through her territory just to think and get her head on straight. Lately, she had been noticing that with the new responsibility of being at the top of the Clan's food chain came an increased sense of responsibility and as such, worry and concern. [break][break]
Were their borders being checked often enough? Were the cats within her Clan happy and prospering? How were the larger predators within her territory managing? The cats of JungleClan needed to be aware of all that happened in their Jungle, and with its vast size, it became increasingly more difficult. The only way to fix such an issue was to increase the size of the Clan. With more warriors, the Clan could afford to send out more patrols, raise more apprentices, and cover more territory in a day. Of course, such thinking was very pragmatic and didn't take into consideration the blooming romances within the Clan and the falling outs of apprentice friendships that could lead to more in warriorhood. [break][break]
Toucanstar slithered through the treetops, deftly moving from one branch to the next as she paced through the territory, always hyper-vigilant of her surroundings. She wondered at why she never considered taking a mate. Her mate had always been success, betterment, and striving to achieve more. She was mate to her job, to her responsibilities, to her Clan, in the same way that the Medicine Cat was. Yet - she had the opportunity to seek out more from life, but it felt selfish to do so. It felt selfish to think of herself before the many cats that followed her expecting her to know exactly what was best for all of them. [break][break]
She shook her head from left to right sharply and quickly, trying to shake the thoughts from her mind. Uselessly, she hoped that they would fall from her ears and scatter along the jungle floor like just more debris to be trampled under the paws, hooves, and claws of those that made the Jungle their home. It was as she was making this movement that she heard a heavy thud below her. With a start, she dug her claws into the branch she was on and peered out over the edge, ears perked forward for what could possibly have made such a loud noise. [break][break]
What she found caused a mrrow of laughter to bubble up to her lips as she saw her newly appointed deputy angrily holding a now dead chameleon in her jaws. She watched from above to ensure that it was Ivytide before she began her descent to the jungle floor, delicately moving between branches, leaves, and vines.[break][break]
"Ivytide! Fancy seeing you here," she said, a smile lifting the corners of her lips up. "Nice catch with that chameleon," she noted, flicking her tail in the direction of the now covered piece of freshkill. "Actually, I've been meaning to talk to you anyways. How is the title of deputy treating you?" the black she-cat asked curiously, sitting down on the soft jungle floor and curling her tail around her paws with a slight tilt of her head.[break][break]
[attr="class","tsnotes"] Feel free to end it here or we can continue it! Up to you (: I'm liking how their personalities interact!

[attr="class","tsbody"] Toucanstar flailed uselessly against the heavier tom, a short half-growl, half-laugh rumbling from her maw as she struggled underneath him. The ebony she-cat scrunched up her face in a sneer at the mouse-dung eating smile that was plastered on his face, her ears flushing red in embarrassment at being stuck underneath him. It was unfortunate, but the one thing that the lanky leader wasn't, was strong in a close-quarter brawl. She preferred to attack from afar and avoid situations such as this. Her long legs made it difficult to find purchase on his sleek chest, so she decided to change tactics.[break][break]
Instead of trying to figure out a way to counter-attack the tom, she sharply turned to her right, claws digging into the soft ground under them to grasp hold of and pull herself out from underneath him, right at the same time that his paws tried to come down on her skull. She ducked her head further under him, just out of reach of his paws unless he wanted to stand up further and allow her a chance to escape.[break][break]
Which, if all went well, she would be able to scurry out from under him and turn to stand and face him at her full height - an endearing smile curving her lips upward in enjoyment. This was a much better way for him to spend his time. Sure, she hadn't gotten a chance to actually best him in combat, but it was enough to perhaps get her point across. Besides, it seemed as though he enjoyed spending his energy refining his skills instead of uselessly jumping from a waterfall. The interaction was refreshing, each movement unexpected from the other combatant. She imagined that the falls would get repetitive, especially considering they never changed. They were always falling at the same speed, the same grace, the same rumble of water rushing through the air. [break][break]
"Well done, Nightscreech! That was a good spar," she said with a soft laugh, eyes aglow with excitement. "Next time you have the urge to go tumbling over those falls, come find me. There's plenty of ways to put that energy to good use to help the Clan," [break][break]
Unless he had something further to say, she would dip her head and turn with a flick of her tail "I've got the rest of my patrol to finish, if you'd like to tag along you can, otherwise I'll see you back at camp," [break][break]
@sovereign Toucan wouldn't have been the one pardoning her for violence, it would have been the previous leader, Mosquitostar. However, she would have been deputy when it did happen, so I can imagine them not having a wonderful relationship haha. I am definitely down for some spats / Cranefeather being punished repeatedly, though be aware that Toucanstar doesn't really stand for repeat offenders. Maybe Toucan sees it as part of her duty to bring Cranefeather back to the happy-go-lucky apprentice she once was? I can see Toucan going out of her way when Crane hasn't recently annoyed her to try and bring back that happiness. Thoughts?

[attr="class","tsbody"] Toucanstar honestly didn't expect her attempt to shoulder him away to work as well as it did. Though, she momentarily remembered that she did have a height advantage on Nightscreech. Her long legs were helpful in that regard, allowing her to tower over her opponents and also apparently allowing her to fling them across the battlefield. The black she-cat watched him slowly raise back onto his paws after landing with a dull thud and a wheeze of air from his parted maw. That definitely looked painful.[break][break]
At his returned playful growl, she let a smile raise to her lips. Her ears perked forward and her tail lashed from side to side as she lowered herself closer to the ground to brace for his next assault. This was starting to become fun. They had a good back and forth going - as a proper spar should, each one delivering blows but neither getting truly injured. Though, she couldn't help but laugh at his sharply pointed fur. It was sticking out in all directions like a half-drowned kit who found out what rain was for the first time, making him look more ridiculous than actually intimidating. [break][break]
Before Toucanstar could get a retort off in response to his goading her, he was in the air hurtling toward her. Toucanstar winced a tad, bracing for impact before he tumbled into her, effectively rolling her onto her back and pinning her beneath him in one quick move. The lanky she-cat's paws flailed uselessly as her breath was shoved from her lungs on impact, a short playful growl echoing from her chest as she drew in air once again.[break][break]
"Nicely done!" she commented shortly, trying to get her paws under the tom in order to shove him off. Hopefully, she could push just enough to get him to lose balance and then she could roll out from underneath him. Mostly, she just wanted to ensure she wasn't pinned for more than a moment, a playful smile still smeared across her features.[break][break]

[attr="class","tsbody"] Toucanstar watched the tom struggle to raise himself out of the water as he coughed and spit up what he had gotten into his lungs. The entire time, her facial features remained passive and unwavering, golden eyes trained on his form as it moved closer to her. The tall leader shifted her weight from side to side, ebony claws digging into the pliable earth beneath her as she contemplated her first move. It was unlike her to provoke others when she was angry. But, she thought the best way to drill her point into Nightscreech was to literally, not figuratively, beat it into him. [break][break]
She could talk for hours on end about how important it was to do everything within your abilities to help your clan, but at the end of the day, it was all talk. She needed to show him what was needed of him, to show him that he still had room to grow and that he could be better than he was. If he lacked the initiative on his own to do right by his clan, she would force her own initiative onto him until he understood himself how vital even just one warrior was to the health and prosperity of the Clan.[break][break]
The midnight black she-cat watched him hesitate as he heard her dictation, saw him mull it over in his head with the trepidation of someone who knew her capabilities. Good, she thought, he understands what he did wrong. With a smirk, she raised her head up higher yet at his stutter. But understanding wasn't enough, knowing and acting on that knowledge were two very separate things. She made a note that more patrols were in his future, and more shifts as a guard as well. [break][break]
Too caught up in her own mind, he was tumbling into her before she had a moment to react. With a dull thud, the large tom shouldered into her, catching her square in the chest and shoving the air from her lungs with a definitive heave. She stumbled back and before she knew it, was sprawled out onto the lush grassy floor. A playful growl escaped her lips as she dug her claws into the ground to gain footing and not get pressed back further. Toucanstar ducked her head low, hoping that Nightscreech would land near her. If he did, she would shoulder her way under his chest and shove upward, attempting to not only knock him off his feet, but also hopefully a few paces away from herself as well. [break][break]
Awesome! That works perfectly for me, because I want to get some more information down for him before I give him away anyways, haha. Hit me up when you start on the bio! I should have more information for you then, and I'll be updating this when I get a moment to.
That sounds like a fun relationship to expand upon! Toucanstar is very active and needs to be doing things to keep her mind calm, so it would be interesting to see Orchid's take on how Toucan should relax haha. I think her speaking her mind would make Toucan respect her more, not less. She really appreciates honesty!! Did you want to thread the two of them, at some point? nifty

[attr="class","tsbody"] At the white tom's gentle self-deprivation to highlight his inability to hunt well, Toucanstar scoffed in indignation. "You shouldn't be so hard on yourself, Snowwhisker - you've come so far since your moons as an apprentice!" she said, sweetly for once. She tread lightly when it came to Snowwhisker and his ability to do things within the Clan. While he wasn't the most influential member of the Clan, he was still a clanmate through and through, and the Jungle ran through his veins in the same way that it did hers. She respected him for trying, again and again, to prove his worth and continue to support the clan in what ways he could - hopefully, one day he would provide the worth she knew he could.[break][break]
"Good morning, Mistfeather, it did treat us well. The jungle is plentiful this season." the leader greeted the silver she-cat as she strolled over to their small gathering from the warrior's den, finally looking away from Snowwhisker as she trotted up. Toucanstar had been an apprentice the same time that Mistfeather had, though she hadn't had a chance to overly interact with her over the moons. She noted that she should schedule a patrol with the young she-cat to get to know her better. She needed more interactions with her clanmates. It was a necessity. [break][break]
Snowwhisker's voice rang out to call out to another warrior within the clan - this time to Cranefeather. The black she-cat refrained from rolling her eyes, settling for a slight smile that quirked the corners of her lips up as he attempted to make friends with her. That was one thing that Snowwhisker was capable of, he was always so attentive to each clanmate and always trying to spark conversations and relations with everyone. [break][break]
Yet, at Cranefeather's snarky response, she couldn't help the bubbling laughter that rolled from her maw. "It seems the squirrels were graced with your presence last night, Cranefeather." she said, tail tip twitching in amusement. To be fair, she hadn't a clue how much the she-cat disliked her, but she was aware of how little she was in camp. Absentmindedly, she thought that Cranefeather would make a wonderful late-night guard for the camp entry. She would have to make note of it to Ivytide the next time she spoke to the deputy. "How was your evening out and about?" she asked the wandering warrior. Although she seemed nice and genuine in her question - she was sure that Cranefeather would be able to note her intention.[break][break]
Toucanstar expected her warriors to give their time to their Clan, not to waste it doing mindless nothings when there were many tasks that needed to be completed. Laziness was not something she tolerated.
