Orchidbloom had been standing at the edge of the opening to the medicine catsβ den. Her reason for being there wasnβt one of utmost importance, but it was something that had been on her mind as of late. After a few days of thinking about it, sheβd decided to act on her thoughts. She supposed she could have waited for a better time, but a restless night and an overactive mind were a combination that ensured she wouldnβt be able to wait very easily. Few cats would be awake during moonhigh, so it was one of the safest times she could go without being in the way.
β¦For most, at least. The one she would be inconveniencing the most was Anispine, and that was precarious. If he was sleeping, she didnβt want to disturb him. She also didnβt want to lower his effectiveness for the next day.
Of course, though, she managed to catch him while he was asleep. Who wouldnβt be at this time, realistically? She was frozen in place, hesitation keeping her paws rooted to the spot. She wasnβt going to disturb him. What had she been thinking? It would have been easier to drain her excess energy literally anywhere else. Orchidbloom prepared to quietly and quickly leave, but it seemed like some ingrained sense told Anispine he wasnβt alone. He moved from his stillness and his gaze landed right on her, and she tried to hide her flinch.
Well, she succeeded in waking him. It seemed like a waste of time to bother him now, but it would be even more so to just walk away. She was practical, so she stayed, mind racing for an appropriate reply.
βAhβ¦ nothing terribly important,β she admitted. βItβs something that should have waited until daylight.β The self-reprimand was heavy in her voice. βI was just restless with an idea. I didnβt intend to disturb you.β She dipped her head in an apologetic gesture. She could see he was tired, sleep still heavily weighing on his posture, so she posed him a choice. βIt truly isnβt a time-pressed issue. I can leave you be and approach with it later if you would prefer to go back to sleep.β
Orchidbloomβs eyes widened slightly. βIβll be gentle. I wouldnβt try to hurt you intentionally.β She circled Snowwhisker a few more times to confirm her thoughts, and she nodded along idly to his final sentence. The wooden wreckage did feel eerie, the air heavy. She also felt like she was being watched, and maybe it was her, but it seemed too quiet. Getting out quickly seemed like the best course of action.
At last, the silver tabby stepped up and carefully took the tomβs scruff between her teeth. She double-checked her positioning and footing, and bracing herself, she pulled.
Snowwhisker wasnβt heavy, just as he said, but it still took a lot of her strength regardless. She assumed Snowwhisker was helping from his end, but Orchidbloom couldnβt help glancing sideways at Cranefeather. It would doubtlessly be easier if the other she-cat helped, but she already made a point of not helping. Orchidbloom didnβt understand it, but she knew she could do it herselfβeven if it took a little longer.
She tugged with each step, and with each step, they got a little farther. Orchidbloom couldnβt communicate of course, but it didnβt take much longer before Snowwhisker was hauled out completely.
Orchidbloom took a few breaths to recollect herself. βThere. Now youβre free,β she said with a smile.
@seaoi anywhere would be fine! I think Tang likes the whole territory. (: I can create a starter if you think Shell would approach Tang, or if not then you can make one and I can have Tang approach?
Orchidbloom wandered closer when her question received no coherent reply, and she was surprised to see two clanmatesβCranefeather and Snowwhiskerβalready there. She took a moment to digest the situation, uncertain on how Snowwhisker managed the feat. She heard rumors about Snowwhisker, that apparently, he was clumsy and spacey. They were only rumors though, and she never bought into idle gossip or anything close to it.
She moved closer to help, but Cranefeather speaking made her pause. She swiveled her amber gaze to the other she-cat, studying her in muted contemplation. The expression on Cranefeatherβs face surprised her, and it took her a moment to remember that she was known for herβ¦ unorthodox personality. Once again, she wouldnβt buy into what she heard from other cats, but the current confrontation was enough to at least make her cautious. The flippant, errant tone made her clench her teeth to bite back sharpened words of her own. It wasnβt worth what she would get out of it, not here.
Instead, she replied with a chilled inflection, βOf course I will.β She ignored the latter comment in favor of approaching Snowwhisker. She circled him a few times with measured steps, attempting to see his predicament from all angles. βHow stuck are you? Can I just pull on your scruff to get you out, or will it take more than that?β
Swiftwave and Orchidbloom - Orchidβs very tepid about grumpy cats so I could see them not liking each other. She can be curt and says exactly what she thinks, so theyβd perhaps duke it out a lot?
Swiftwave and Sharksong - Iβm not sure how much they would have interacted if at all, but if they ever do I could see them always ready to fight in each otherβs presence.
Turtlehop and Sharksong - Iβm excited to develop them! Not sure how comfortable she would be with Shark in normal cases, but I could see him approaching her after dealing with the stress of his deputy trial.
Anispine and Orchidbloom - Orchid is realistic and calm, so I can see them getting along with a healthy respect for each other. She also likes to learn and teach in return, so I can also see her asking Ani to teach her about very basic medicine, and she could teach him something in return?
Shellpaw and Tangpaw - Tang is eccentric and socially adept, so I could see them being good friends perhaps? Like maybe they have a level of understanding with each other that others wouldnβt have with them individually. Shell might also be good to balance out Tangβs eagerness, and Tang likes to learn/is rather patient, so she might be good for Shell too.
Mistfeather and Orchidbloom - Orchidβs very down to earth and I could see her being a good influence on Mist. Orchid also isnβt one to have a million friends, so I think theyβd get along well, maybe having deep conversations?
Bleakpaw and Tangpaw - Ohh I think Bleak would find Tang downright annoying. Sheβs very studious and excitable, so Iβm sure they wouldnβt get along. Tangβs really gullible as well, so Iβd be interested to see how they interact. (:
Bleakpaw and Sharksong - Shark had a similar superiority complex growing up, so I think it would be fun to see what would happen between them, since Shark managed to pull his way out of it. Iβm not sure what your future plans were, but I can see Shark seeing himself in Bleak, with knowledge of trying to live up to strict father. Maybe he tries to guide Bleak?
Eelpool and Sharksong - I canβt say how much Eel would like Shark, but maybe he might be good for pulling her out of her shell if she could tolerate him?
Rosa awesome! Iβll make the thread in the next day or so. I also updated the plotter with my tribe cat, so let me know if you see anything interesting there!
It didnβt occur to Tangpaw until after she left the den that her reaction might have been an overreaction. She followed Duskleap dutifully, though the characteristic pep in her step didnβt show until they were out on the territory. As she awoke more, the more excited and in-tune with her environment she became.
She quickly looked to her mentor when the questions were asked, and she took a moment to think. Her last attempt at swimming was with Tunapaw, and it hadnβt been the best experience. However, she knew Duskleap was skilled, and anything that happened would be under her watchful eye.
βNo concerns!β she chirped, deciding against mentioning the experience. She didnβt want it on either of their minds before they actually started. She did want to know what they would do first, however. βIβm fine with swimming, but which one would we do first? Is there even any way to fish around the falls without any swimming?β The lakeβHekili Lakeβwhere the falls and river ended, was coming into view. The colorful horizon reflected on the oscillating surface, and she took a moment to stare at the glittering water. The lake would always be her favorite place, but there was more to appreciate now than ever.
Tangpaw was huddled on the fledglingsβ side of the old farmhouse, tucked comfortably in her nest of palm fronds. Sheβd made it a point in her apprenticeship so far to be on time. She did what her mentor asked her to. She gathered more nest materials and did every other fledgling chore with almost no complaint. But no matter how good she tried to be, the lifestyle change was a huge adjustment for her. As much as she didnβt want to admit it, she was simply exhausted. She always liked sleeping as well, so the combination meant it was easy for her to sleep inβand sleep late.
She didnβt even feel the touch of a tail as she shifted deeper into her nest. She heard a voice, but it sounded distorted and far away. A gentle shake pulled her towards wakefulness, and the insistent voice made her open her eyes. She squinted against the light falling into the old building, and she blinked through bleary vision as she tried to remember where she was and why she was up so early.
And then it hit her.
Her training! She sprung out of her nest with a gasp of shock, and she twisted around. Duskleap was right there. Shame burned through her like fire kindling. βIβ¦ I didnβt mean to sleep so late!β she said quickly, eyes wide. βIβm sorry.β How could she prove herself a competent fledgling if she couldnβt even wake up when she was supposed to?
