WEATHER
Year 55, Scorching Sands 09.05.2019 → The temperatures of the islands are a steady 98° F on land/ high 80s in water. There is almost no breeze, the sun is uncomfortably warm.
Prey during the day is pretty scarce due to the heat, however is quite active after the sun goes down.
Lost in the dense jungles of scattered islands, facing perils unimagined by their ancestors, are three warrior groups - The traditional JungleClan, descendants of the original clans carried aboard a twoleg contraption from their home long ago and breaking new ground on old beliefs. Second, the curious TidalClan, made up of kittypets who chose to abandon their long since passed twoleg civilization ways for those of true felines. Lastly, the mysterious Tribe of Twisted Roots, hidden in the mist from others with their strange ways and a deeper knowledge of the land around them. Together they must learn how to take their fate into their own paws if they wish to survive this land of erupting mountains and roaring waters.
Join our crew and dive into an island-based Warriors roleplay - a twist on the original series by Erin Hunter. We are a semi-literate site with a minimum of 100 words per post.
[attr="class","hearmenand2"]The morning was warm and humid, hinting at the insufferable heat that would appear later in the day. Orchidbloom knew it wasn’t wise to train in those conditions, so early-morning training it was. She told Ratpaw as much the previous night, so she waited by Shipwreck Cove, expectant that Ratpaw would remember and meet her. While she was the younger she-cat’s mentor, Orchidbloom wasn’t her mother. She wouldn’t coddle her apprentice or hold her tail. Warriors were expected to remember, so she saw no fault in having Ratpaw go through the motions. And if for some reason Ratpaw forgot, then she would miss training that day and fall behind. Orchidbloom loved teaching, but she could only do that if her apprentice was eager and willing to learn herself. She was a strict mentor, but her discipline had a reason.
Her eyes traced the wrecked ship, where it sat on the sand, in the water, and the rock between the two halves. A moon ago she fought a horde of rats with Cranefeather and Snowwhisker in the grounded portion of the ship’s wooden frame, and it seemed miraculous that they survived, considering the odds. The waves of rats were unending, and she could still feel painful twinges from the wounds that were mostly healed. The ship was investigated, but the rats were nowhere to be found. It was odd, but it didn’t stop Orchidbloom from visiting the site. She just wouldn’t go inside.

Ratpaw was excited for training, as her mentor had said they would start in the morning. So she woke up, being careful not to disturb those who were still sleeping. She knew from Orchidbloom that it would be hot outside, so early morning was the best time. She didn’t enjoy waking up early, but she knew that she did that she had to.[break][break] She wasn’t running to the location, but was a bit surprised that her mentor didn’t even wait for her. She dismissed the thought, shaking her fur out. She wasn’t a kit anymore, she could find her way to the Shipwreck cove. She was a bit nervous in approaching the shipwreck, as she’d never been inside it before. She recalled that there had been a rat attack recently, and was about to lose herself in her anxious thoughts, when she spotted the silver pelt of her mentor. Ratpaw approached, mewing a hello, a bit nervous as to what training they were going to do. She knew that Orchidbloom was a strict cat, and she appreciated that, because Ratpaw didn’t need anyone to coddle her. She was prepared to give it her all, and waited to learn more.
[attr="class","hearmenand2"]Much to her pleasure, Ratpaw appeared before her in a decent amount of time. She heard the faint rustle of undergrowth before she saw the brown apprentice. Orchidbloom nodded in a greeting of her own before she began speaking.
“Thank you for being prompt, Ratpaw. We’re going to focus on tracking today. You did well in finding me, so I know you can handle what I have planned.” She took a breath, then continued. “It’s one thing to follow a fresh scent, but sometimes we have to track old scents. Sometimes we have to follow tracks that are deliberately hidden.” The circumstances where they’d have to follow hidden tracks was rare, but it was a skill that was useful in many ways once learned.
“First I want you to tell me what you can detect with your senses. Anything and everything.” Every sense could be used, so she wanted to get her apprentice in the habit of using everything that was at her disposal.

Ratpaw felt a rush of pride as the older tabby praised her. She hadn’t really tracked Orchidbloom’s scent, such as just went the way she knew how to get to the shipwreck, but she was still pleased she was on time. She nodded as her mentor explained what they were going to do and sniffed the air , trying her best to pick out scents. There were so many, and she quickly became overwhelmed. Not wanting to disappoint, Ratpaw tried her best to pick out the smells from one another.[break][break] Obviously, she could smell her mentor and herself , but she figured that was too obvious. She recalled her mentor telling her to use all her senses, so Ratpaw pricked her ears. “I can hear the waves,” she mewed, as she looked at the broken ship that laid a little bit around them. “I can also smell the water.” She took another beat, and tried to focus on her surroundings. “I can smell some prey,” she said, hesitentaily, not sure if what she was actually smelling was prey, or if it had been something else in the amalgamation of smells, but she was proud of trying, at least. “And i can see the ship,” she said as she looked around. She knew that one was obvious but, better to over do it in her mind.
