Ratpaw awoke, excited to start the day. She stretched, her small form cracking as she did so. She sat in her nest for a bit, grooming her fur in order to look presentable, and then slipped out of the den, attempting not to step on any sleeping forms.[break][break] Ratpaw had been very excited since she had been named an apprentice. Finally, she could do all the things she wanted, or at least most of them. Her parents had already taught her a few battle moves, and had taught her a little bit about the hunting crouch, but she knew she could learn more from her mentor, Orchidblossom. She admired the older she-cat, and had enjoyed the little training session they had when she had been first named an apprentice[break][break] . The brown she-cat looked around the camp, unsure of quite what to do next. She didn’t know if she should go out alone, considering she had only been out of the territory once, and it was with Orchidblossom. She eyed the fresh-kill pile, but knew she couldn’t eat until she had caught something for the rest of the clan. She had grown up with Luarelpaw and her siblings, and Ratpaw was sure they were just as excited as she was. She turned her head around the camp, but didn’t catch sight of anyone her age. She spotted some cats milling about, but they were far much older than her and Ratpaw didn’t want to be the first to approach.
Slithering through the entrance of the camp with a wren and lizard in jaw, she flicked her gaze across the camp with an assessing gaze. Not far behind her was fellow warrior Nightscreech, mouth muffled with a large parrot. She dipped her head to him as they deposited their prey among the pile, before turning her attention to the camp. It was as busy as ever, some kits conversing with each other on the side and a pair of apprentices wrestling near the back. Golden eyes carefully sifted through each cat, making sure they were healthy and happy.
Carefully sitting next to a familiar solid brown pelt, the deputy 'hmm'ed slightly at the other's uncertain expression. As a new apprentice of JungleClan, and one that was pretty close with her own children, Ivytide was greatly familiar with Ratpaw. "Good morning, Ratpaw," she greeted familiarly, golden eyes warm as she curled her tail over her paws. It was a nice morning, especially since prey was plentiful in the jungle. She was thinking about taking Laurelpaw to Silverthread Falls to start their battle training. The soft grass there and the pool of water was a good spot for training, especially when it came to fishing.
"How is it being outside of the nursery?" she queried with interest, thoughtfully eyeing Ratpaw. "Everybody treating you okay in there? It can be a little intimidating when you're a new apprentice and barely know what to do." she added kindly, pulling up her paw to run her tongue over it. Rubbing it over her head and swiping her tongue over it again, Ivytide let a faint shiver roll down her spine as she turned her attention to nibbling at a spot on her leg. She paused in mid lick when a sudden thought occurred to her.
Was.. there something between Ratpaw and Laurelpaw?
Ratpaw had looked up as Ivytide had approached her. She was happy to see a welcoming and familiar face, and instantly answered the question that had been asked, “ Good morning !,” she repeated back, being conscious of her manners.Ratpaw was close with Ivytide’s own kits, as she had grown up with them in the nursery. Laurelkit, now an apprentice like herself, was one of her best friends in the clan and Ratpaw was very grateful that she at least had other cats in the den with her.[break][break] “Being out of the nursery is great! “ the brown she-cat replied, her eyes brightening. It was the truth, she had enjoyed having new responsibilities. She had enjoyed getting to know the other apprentices better as well, and was looking forward to even more training and learning that she knew she had to do. “Everything is fine !” Ratpaw exclaimed. No one had been treating her badly after all, and she didn’t want to admit that she found everything a bit intimidating, even if Ivytide knew better. Ratpaw didn’t want to come off as a scaredy cat, especially not to one of her seniors. And even then, she had just barely been appointed as an apprentice, so she wasn’t all entirely sure what it was like, and wanted to reserve judgment, at least until she had more experience.
