Widow's web
Kingdom of Mokuha ∙ Shaman ∙ Male ∙ Sixty
Appearance
Description sentence:
A large, smokey tom with haunting yellow eyes
Appearance:
your namesake comes from the delicate, gossamer weave of a fleeting arachnid. at birth you matched the translucent web uncannily. fur snow-white, long strands feathered and easily tangled leading to too many day-baths lavished at your mother's tongue. white cats were a good omen, and she was proud you inherited her pristine fur. it meant you would survive the harsh environment you had been thrust into.
along the edges of the fur, though, the barest hint of silver-grey from your father. a slight defect from perfection but the color glimmered beneath the moon and wasn't vivid enough to be a beacon for enemies among the snow. kissed by the moon, your mother says you are. her sweet blessing.
your bones are thick and sturdy, shoulders broad and height tall as the mountains. a beast of a cat, they say. a true knight if they ever saw one. age has you filling your large paws, movements an eerie grace for one with such a grandiose form. age sees the silver edges of your fur taking on darker hues. no more the starstruck silver, but instead smoke-filled grey and night-touched black.
mother is taken aback as her sweet prince changes before her eyes. it is as though you have been dipped into the shadows and forever stained by their grasping claws and misery. she worries for your safety among the mountains. how can a cat as dark as pitch hope to survive if it can be seen so easily in the glimmer of day-lit snow. you take to the shadows instead, hunting and patrolling at night as your fur grows impossibly darker.
there are whispers of a cat who wears the pelts of their enemies. coat dark as pitch yet impossibly light just underneath.. a looming force that steals away in the night, heart as dark as the body that shields it. nose and mouth so shadowed within the face they remain invisible until it is upon you. eyes a haunting shade of chartreuse that glint with hints of madness. you have made a name for yourself, slinking about in the darkness you call home. the kingdom's shadow.

there is a tale as old as time, one of a spider and its crime. for the spider coveted the fly, he spun his web of woe. and so the spider beckoned to the fly, with lavish words and pretty lies, which first fell upon deaf ears. steadfast held the spider, until the fly could resist temptation no longer. silly, flattering words were poison through and through. for with all his disarming charm, the spider was always open in meaning the fly great harm.
since your young days, your mind raced a mile a minute. everything around you was something. to be explored. to be to be discovered. to be understood. you wanted nothing more than to know how the world worked, and such ponderous thoughts quickly grew into a near obsession. the more knowledge you gained, the more power you found at your paws. knowledge was respected because it is synonymous to power. and you surely wished to be powerful.
your heart is filled with light and joy in those early moons. you are outgoing, the thirst for adventure never quite quenched. all too often you travel farther than you should only to get in trouble and then make the same exact choices when the chance happens upon you once more. eventually, your mother and father learn that their reprimands fall upon deaf ears. you have no intent to stop your adventures.
your mind is something of a mystery to those around you. like a sponge you absorb information, picking out pieces you deem important enough to remember and compartmentalizing those bits so that they can be quickly turned to in future endeavors. once you make the decision to learn something, your brain won't let you forget it. such skills leave you to be a highly organized individual, so much so that you have been called obsessive more times than you can count. you prefer efficient.
mulishness runs strong within your family. brows set sternly in a bleak face, teeth quick to grind together upon the harsh locking of your jaw. you are quite like the mountains in a way. unyielding to outside forces and unwilling to bend if not on your own terms. more troublesome though is your eagerness to judge those you deem beneath you. your mother always said she raised you better than such primitive notions, but you have never been able to wrap your head around the point of treating others as equal when they are far from being such.
a slight smirk can be seen flickering over your features, eyes dancing with amusement even in the least amusing of situations. derision is your best friend, tongue an extension of your claws and just as scathing as those very same weapons. all in all you are an enigma of a cat. fearsome in form and - admittedly - with a mind so sharp it's downright terrifying.

History:
quick timeline right now, this will be highly expanded tomorrow.
— born in the dead of leaf-bare. two kits with pelts as white as snow. near identical twins to a mother weak with exhaustion. hungry bellies and cold bodies, there is nothing available to fill your belly with. the soft scent of your mother is replaced with unfamiliarity. the strangeness is soon forgotten in favor of milk. sustenance. survival. in the background, your mother mourns her failure.
— once weaned you are thrust back into your mother's grasping claws. she holds her kits close, fretting over your every waking - and sleeping - moment. she worries that should she close her eyes the two of you will disappear. so frightened has she been of the harsh winter stealing you away that you've remained resolutely nameless. not that it matters much at the time, you're too young to understand such intricate things.
— the start of your second moon finds you with your namesake. your body isn't frail no matter what your mother believes. you and your brother will survive, so it is only right to hail you as something other than 'little one' and 'darling'. your brother is christened roaring rapids, for he is as loud and vibrant as the turbulent waters, blue-grey fur only solidifying the decision. mother says you are kissed by the moon. a blessing. though just as big as your brother, you are far quieter. your fur is silky to the touch, like liquid beneath her tongue. she calls you widow's web, after the translucent sheen of the moon upon the freshly spun spider's gossamer trap.
