inystar had just finished leading a patrol down the JungleClan border. Everything had been quiet on the border, the scent of the other clan's patrol was a bit stale. Deciding that everything was alright, the patrol wrapped up and instead dispersed into a couple of groups. Instead of joining the patrol to make the trek back to camp or joining a handful of her clanmates to start a hunting patrol, she had decided to turn her paws towards Hekili Lake. The she-cat nodded to the others and began heading towards the lake.
[break][break]As she travelled down the beach, she saw the form of the mountains in the distance, hard to see through a thick mist surrounding them. No cat in TidalClan had gone up there and lived to tell the tale. Her predecessor, Coconutstar, had been paranoid of angering the gods and had all but forbade expeditions. The younger more ambitious Tinystar decided once she was made leader to start them up again, but she too held a healthy fear of the gods. While she wanted to respect them, she wanted to expand her territory and strengthen her clan. The mountains were rumoured to be cursed by the very same gods, but a burning curiosity always came over her whenever she saw the snowy peaks through the mist.
[break][break]A slight shiver ran across her pelt as she thought about walking up the misty slopes. It would be insanity to make such a journey on her own, and while she was adventurous she wasn't about to be reckless when she had an entire clan to look after. Trying to push the thoughts of the mountains aside, she continued travelling down the shore until she saw the large body of fresh water known as Hekili Lake in the distance. The lake was one of the only sources of fresh water in TidalClan's territory, and it was a great spot to collect herbs, hunt small prey and certain freshwater fish.
[break][break]She drew closer to the lake, and padded up the shore that was littered with pebbles. Lush grass swaying in the wind was growing around the lake. Tinystar moved forward so her front paws were slightly in the lake, the cold water a stark contrast to the burning hot sands of beach. The water carried fresh scents from the mountain down to the lake, the smells wafting to her a mystery she wished to know. She took a few laps of the water, relishing the cold against her dry throat. Licking the water droplets off of her whiskers, she stepped back to remove her paws from the water and sat on the shore of the lake with her tail wrapped around her. Perhaps she ought to hunt, or collect some useful herbs for Turtlehop. She wasn't sure which herbs the healer might need, but Turtlehop always seemed thankful for anything Tinystar chose to bring back.

The patrol along JungleClan’s border had been a success, and Bayfur blinked gratefully at his denmates as they finished up their business. There were no stray scents, and the rival Clan seemed nowhere to be seen; that was as good an indication as any that TidalClan was doing their job right. Their territory seemed alive with little signs of active prey, and it was no surprise when a senior warrior in their patrol offered to take a portion of them hunting. [break][break]
Bayfur had to decline the offer, though. There was something about being around larger groups of cats that made his stomach feel all woozy and his fur all prickly with anxiety. That something only seemed to be alleviated around a few cats - and Tinystar was one of them. His former mentor made him feel safe when little else could, and he was eager to eek out a few more minutes with her if he could. When their leader made it clear she was not heading back to camp with the rest of them, Bayfur felt a mix of dejection and curiosity. Halfway back to camp, he excused himself from the group and backtracked, curiously tracing his leader’s scent to the lake. [break][break]
He followed her gaze to the mountains, ears twitching curiously as he wondered what she saw in them. Bayfur had only known them as distant landmarks, not potential destinations. Even when he had imagined leaving the Clan for the great unknown, he hadn’t thought far enough ahead to plot a point on the map and go there. Neither StarClan nor the Gods could condemn the thought more than the pit in his stomach did - and as soon as Tinystar walked up to the shore, the very thought dropped from his mind. [break][break]
Mischievously, he prowled closer, an old trick that he had played many times on her as a kitten. He circled round, pulling closer and closer… and then leapt, attempting to catch her tail gently in his teeth. Whether or not he caught it would be up to her; regardless, he would drop the act relatively quickly with a blink. “Tinystar,” he said, teasing in his voice. “Why are you running away from our patrol?” He glanced back to the mountains. “Did you get a sign from StarClan? Are the mountains going to explode or something?” [break][break]

he chief's thoughts swirled - a mixture of wonder gnawing at her stomach, one she has never fully been able to quell. The thought that there was life beyond the slice of territory she and her clan had carved out for themselves haunted her regularly. She wanted to know more, see everything that there was to be seen... but duty always had a way of keeping her close to home. She could not be so reckless when she was responsible for so many. While she knew TidalClan would be fine without her, she wanted to be there to see the clan continue to flourish. The thoughts of adventure were merely a dream. One that would not come true, for better or for worse. There were more realistic things that the she-cat ought to set her mind to, anyway.
[break][break]Tinystar had been so absorbed in her own mind that she did not realize that Bayfur had tracked her location to the lake from the main patrol. Her tail had been swishing gently behind her, a subconscious movement that occurred when she was deep in her thoughts. When she felt teeth wrap around her tail, she leapt up with a yelp - more from surprise than pain. The calico-and-white cat whirled around, her fur standing straight up and making her look twice her usual small size. It wasn't until she recognized the familiar face of Bayfur looking back at her that she was able to collect herself again.
[break][break]She had trained the tom as a fledgling, and the two were rather close. She still remembered the small scrap of shaking fur he had been when he was being trained by Cactusbloom. It wasn't until the fledgling was under Tinystar's training and the influence of poppy seeds did he begin relaxing a bit. His transformation from the fragile leaf in the wind to the bold young fighter that stood before her today was something she admired. She felt a glow of pride burn in her chest as she looked at him, the earlier fright he had given her all but forgiven.
[break][break]The tom spoke, then, his words bringing her out of reminiscing and back to the thoughts of the mountains that she had been frightened out of. Shaking her head, she chuckled. "No, I don't reckon they will be exploding anytime soon." The she-cat tried to shake the yearning feeling of wonder away, but she knew she didn't have to fully mask her thoughts from her previous fledgling. "I was just wondering what lays beyond. Away from JungleClan, away from our territory. Beyond." The she-cat responded, focusing her eyes back to Bayfur.
[break][break]"The expeditions of many moons again were dangerous, but I always wondered what it would have been like to be involved in them. I wonder if our ancestors ever went up the mountain slopes, or ventured beyond the island." Coconutstar had inspired fear in adventuring. Tinystar wanted to encourage curiosity. She also wanted to exercise caution. Surely if it was the will of the Gods, they would send her a sign?
