Despite his best attempt to make his descent look as effortless as possible, even Rosefang had to admit he was less than graceful on his way down the tree. He took extra care to make sure his paws landed where Bayfur's were only a moment beforehand, but his added bulk made the branches sway slightly with each landing.
The ginger tom relaxed his tense muscles once his feet touched the sandy ground beneath the tree, though he regretted doing so as Bayfur immediately barrelled into him.
Without solid ground to grip onto, Rosefang's paws fell out from beneath him, sending sand flying and his entire body tumbling backwards. Bayfur's paws pinned him carefully, with intent but claws sheathed. Rosefang looked up with a petulant glare at his friend's insufferably self-satisfied expression as he gloated.
"No doubt we'll be dodging some dangerous weather by the end of the day." He purred back playfully, glare dissolving into a matching simper, "But I wouldn't be so smug if I were in your position."
Rosefang surged his weight and kicked his back legs upward in an attempt to unbalance the tom on top of him, intending to push Bayfur off and get back to standing on all four paws, or at least destabilize Bayfur's current position above him.
weirdos unite! I like the idea of Rosefang and Applebelly having both had trouble getting used to their big bodies. Apple seems like a really sweet cat and I can imagine they get along rather well! theodora
CORAL
Aww I love this. Rosefang would totally try to coax Coralfrost out of her shell more and try to engage her in conversations! He’d be so determined to support her and help her get over her nervousness. diesel
TINY
Honestly this is 100% what I envisioned their relationship being like. He tries so hard but he just can’t seem to stay out of trouble! Poor Tinystar having to deal with his messes... probably gets pretty frustrating! Artemis
Rosefang only sighed and shrugged in response to his friend's nagging. He wasn't that unaffected by the situation, but he imagined any reaction that wasn't screaming and crying for help from the gods was considered underreacting to the more anxious tom.
“It really isn’t that big of a deal, Bayfur, I can get myself down.” That probably wasn’t true but he knew this would end up biting him in the flank one way or another, he may as well try to look like he has everything under control.
Despite this, Rosefang listened to his friend’s instruction, crawling forward (a bit slower than he’d like to admit) before returning to his paws and leaping down to the lower branch. The landing was less than graceful, his weight combined with Bayfur’s caused the branch to sway slightly, but he resisted the instinct to dig his claws in and lower his body closer to the branch. He leaned in closer to Bayfur with a smug expression.
“The day you manage to knock me down in a fight will be the day it rains coconuts. But by all means, lead the way o’ master of squirrels.”
Budwhisker is Rosefang's smaller sibling, and the child of Cherrytail. Budwhisker grew up being coddled by their mother, protected by their bigger brother, and treated delicately by the other kits in the nursery. As the kits grew, Budwhisker quickly became known as "the smart one".
The rest is up to you! Everything from their name to their gender is open to changes.
RAVENSTEP
Rosefang's former mentor is a very patient cat indeed. They were chosen to train the fledgling to understand the ways of surviving as a smaller, more nimble cat. However, due to Rosefang's unexpected growth spurt, their method of training needed to be revised. It took a few extra moons but they eventually learned together how to best proceed with Rosefang's particular strengths and weaknesses.
This boy needs some friends to keep him out of trouble. Rosefang initially comes across as cool and stoic, but in actuality he's a bit of a dope. That aloof exterior can be intriguing to other cats who may wish to try and 'crack his shell'. Unfortunately what they're bound to find underneath is a cat who is a few bananas short of a bunch. That being said, his way of thinking can often lead to advice that comes outside of the box, and his honorable nature makes him a loyal and dependable friend.
ENEMIES
He's a loyal Tidalclan fighter! As such he's unlikely to trust outsiders right off the bat. Despite his loyalty, though, Rosefang has issues listening and going along with authority especially if he disagrees with another's stance or mindset. He has a bit of a reputation for being difficult.
LOVERS
Rosefang isn't currently open to any serious romances, but I imagine him to be a bit of a flirt. Until he finds the one he'll probably try to catch the attention of a cute molly or tom every once in a while.
Rosefang worked the visual in his head over and over, tried to picture the movements he'd have to make to get back to the ground. After a few moments of mental preparation he was about to set about moving, when a sound caught his attention.
Pretty much as soon as he heard rustling underneath him Rosefang could figure out who had found him. A quick scent check confirmed his suspicions.
His body sagged further on the branch in disappointment. Of course Bayfur came to look for him. It wasn't enough the Rosefang had managed to make it past him this morning, the smaller tom would no doubt find a way to wriggle into any trouble affair Rosefang was involved in.
"Believe it or not, I'm not up here because I want to be." He called down to Bayfur, "I was hunting and managed to get myself into a bit of a snag but it's no big deal, really."
Rosefang swished his tail lazily as if to emphasize his nonchalance at the situation. It was a bit performative, but he'd rather Bayfur not notice the anxiety he felt at the moment.

Dark amber eyes met deep cocoa brown for only a split second. Within an instant there was panicked chattering and the vanishing flash of black and white fur, then nothing but air and leaves. Rosefang sagged his shoulders a bit, then let his limbs, currently perched tensely, fall to either side of the branch he stood on.
Well that certainly could've gone better. He thought to himself with frustration, I swear I've been out here since before sun rise and haven't had a sliver of luck.
Rosefang would never admit it out loud but he wasn't exactly the greatest hunter. He had minimal issues taking down large, clumsy prey when he had backup but for smaller, more practical catches…
He narrowed his eyes in the direction his potential morning meal had escaped to. He couldn't give up now. The sun was high enough now that most of his clanmates would be awake and Rosefang refused to walk into camp without something to show for it.
A surge of determination pushed him to his feet, and then immediately back to his previous position on the branch. Ah yes, he'd nearly forgotten that he was, in fact, in a tree currently. No problem, Rosefang had gotten himself out of tighter situations in the past. A quick glance downward saw his vision spinning slightly.
That's… a far jump.
Rosefang's front claws gripped the bark of the branch he was on. How in starclan's name did he manage to get up so high without noticing? A small part of him patted himself on the back for beating his climbing record.
Wait, no, this is a bad thing. He shook his head, I'm pretty sure I can't jump down from this height without hurting myself.
Another glance down was enough to confirm that to at least himself. He'd just have to climb down from where he currently was.
Description sentence: A large ginger and white tom with amber eyes.
Appearance: Rosefang is a pretty big cat. Probably not 'the biggest cat you've ever seen' material but he's nothing to sneeze at either. With his broad shoulders, wide chest and large paws, he cuts a daunting silhouette. Barring one slightly mangled ear, Rosefang's face doesn't hold any of the sharp intimidation his body does. He has expressive, almond shaped amber eyes, and a small, soft pink nose.
Rosefang's thick, short pelt is ginger with mackeral tabby markings and distinct patches of white. Notably, he has a large white patch covering nearly all of his chest, as well as smaller patches on his face and the tips of his paws.
Personality
Positive Traits: • Honorable • Daring • Composed
Negative Traits: • Arrogant • Dumb • Stubborn
Personality: There's a few surface level traits that most who don't know Rosefang take note of rather quickly. The first is the assertiveness with which he holds himself. The second is his calmness, a slight stoicism which gives him an almost mysterious affect. Some who meet him for the first time might, at first, think of him as cool. Others are likely to call him smug.
Upon deeper inspection, the latter would be more accurate.
Those who have gotten to know Rosefang are more aware of his certain… quirks. While, yes, he is a little more on the quiet side, it's less a product of apathy or coolness and more due to his lack of focus. He is often caught daydreaming about something or another, and his friends are likely to label him as a mouse-brain. His nonchalance often comes at the expense of common sense and cooperativeness, though he's willing to put aside differences or grudges in critical situations.
Despite his lackadaisical attitude, he also manages to be one of the most self assured cats you could ever meet. Call it confidence or haughtiness, he certainly sees himself as something special.
History: Cherrytail had always been a rather unlucky cat. Her regular bouts of illness and lethargy, coupled with her lack of any practical skills and the death of her mate, it only makes sense that her pregnancy involved just about every complication that wasn't fatal. One premature delivery later and she swore she'd never put herself through it again. The kits were small, and their names would reflect as much but Smallkit, ironically, was the bigger of the two. Cherrytail urged him from a young age to be virtuous and strong, to take care of his smaller sibling and his clanmates. Of course that didn't keep the rest of the nursery kits from treating him like the most fragile thing in existence.
It honestly bothered him to no end that kits younger than him were still bigger than he was. It was also annoying when he was being told what to do by said kit day in and day out; he even managed to get himself sick once from Baykit (Jori) bossing him around while playing chief. It was probably at that point that he just kinda… stopped listening, at least when it came to what others had to say.
This made Smallpaw a rather difficult fledgling to train. On top of the usual "He should really have stayed in the nursery longer." and "Poor thing never even knew his father." there was now the added "I heard he got his ear shredded during training today." and "Poor Ravenstep, I don't envy them one bit." He wasn't starting trouble on purpose, honestly! Every cat has their own difficulties to push through as they reach adolescence. For Smallpaw it was not only his stubbornness and dullness, but also the quite impressive and sudden growth spurt he went through about 3 moons into his training. If you ask any mentor, the only thing worse than an arrogant fledgling, is one that's also bigger than you are.
Luckily for Ravenstep, not-so-Smallpaw's lack of tact was only a product of his inability to grasp... much of anything beyond basic understanding. He was often caught up in his own little world, spacing out with his head in the clouds. One thing they discovered he was rather good at, though, was throwing his weight around. Smallpaw's newfound size and endurance, as well as his calm and confident nature, made him a surprisingly adequate fighter. With a push here and there, he managed to fall into the rhythm of training... eventually.
Not even the lateness of his fighter ceremony could put a dent in Rosefang's confidence, his new name was enough the keep that fire going. After all the small aspect didn't exactly fit him anymore.
But don't worry, name change or not, he still manages to find himself in trouble often enough.
