Appearance
Description sentence:
A dark silver tabby tom with green eyes.
Appearance:
Named for the deep gray of his pelt, Musselmouth's dark fur is short and dense. A white blaze splashes down from his upper lips down to the cradle of his chest, and returns only to paint his paws. His eyes are bright green.
Pit against another tom of his age, Musselmouth is slightly on the small end of the spectrum. He's a bit thick around the edges, most certainly built more broad than lanky and graceful. When he was young, some cats may remember him as "the fledgeling whose paws were too big for his body"; thankfully, he's grown into them by now, and carries a very even stride most times. Generally he's pretty well-kept.
Personality
Positive Traits: • Empathetic; kind-hearted • Driven by simple tasks; driven by a desire for justice • Loyal; self-sacrificing • Contemplative; introspective | Negative Traits: • Moody; easily set off • Unfriendly; distant • Self-absorbed; self-destructive & impulsive • Fickle, flighty; easily overwhelmed |
Personality:
Msselmouth is helpful, but the most frequent words found in his reviews are "stuck-in-his-own-world". Socially, it's clear he's got some sort of anxiety; he's overly formal, imaginatively wordy, and he absolutely fumbles through interactions that he hasn't rehearsed in his head. With a little digging, the persona he's built for himself begins to take shape: in his mind, or perhaps in his hopes, he takes the role of a hero. With low self-worth and a strong desire for justice, Musselmouth sees solace in the idea of a black-and-white form or morality, where he sits on the "good" side of the scale.
At his best, Musselmouth is passionate, honorable, and meticulous. At his worst, he is distant, bitter and prone to lashing out (in more of a 'big whiny baby tantrum' way than an 'abusive' way, that is).

Character Background
Family:
Galesong - mother
Magpiewing - fatherly-figure?, deceased
Reefpelt - sister, littermate
History:
His mother never revealed the identity of his biological father, but not for any particularly dramatic reason. She was of the age and disposition to want kits, and that was that.
Musselkit & Reefkit were born on a hot, humid summer evening in the island nursery. Their early kithood was fine enough. Galesong introduced Magpiewing into their lives early on; a good friend, she said. Okay. That was fine with Musselkit, and Magpiewing became something of a fixture in the kits' lives, if only because of the amount of time he spent visiting with their mother.
As the kits aged, Magpie's temper began to rear its head; it began as an unsureness in the air between Galesong and he, a sort of kicked up something in Musselkit's stomach.

we all think he's kind of lame
-musselmouth suffers from psychosis episodes that come and go. a stark contrast from his usual selfless (well, sort of selfless) attitude, he can be incredibly paranoid and confrontational at times. it's never violent or malicious, but maintaining a lasting intimate relationship with him is difficult because of the inevitability of an outburst where he feels he cannot trust the cats around him.
he isn't aware that this is an issue with his physical makeup rather than an unknowable aspect of his personality, and thus has not yet learned to differentiate between what is "fake" and "real", per se, during the duration of these episodes, in addition to feeling like a pretty big loser about it. the acute episodes can last anywhere from an hour to a couple days, but seem to occur in batches along already tumultuous weeks.
-musselmouth's mental health struggles are not meant to represent any specific disorder & his symptoms come from personal experience rather than intending to be a broad coverage.
