Shrimptail
TidalClan ∙ fighter ∙ male ∙ 20 moons
Appearance
Description sentence:
A slender ginger-and-white tom with green eyes and a long, white-tipped tail.
Appearance:
Shrimptail was a frail, lanky kit; as a fledgling, he learned to rely on his long limbs and his senses over muscle. Though his health improved before he could become a fighter, he remains slim. He has androgynous features, with close-set, angular olive green eyes.
His whiskers are short and scarce. His coat is ginger with sharp mackerel tabby markings. Shrimptail owes his name to these stripes, visible on his fur even when he was a newborn, along with his small size and long, white-tipped tail. A white blaze covers his muzzle and tapers off at his forehead, and he has a white underbelly, neck, and paws. There is a thin, dark red streak down his back where the tabby markings converge.
Personality
Please list at least three positive and three negative traits for your character below.
Positive Traits: • Attentive • Playful • Loyal • Nurturing | Negative Traits: • Paranoid • Conflict-averse • Disingenuous • Meddlesome |
Personality:
Though Shrimptail stuck to himself as a kit, he has learned to be sociable and approachable as he's grown; he creates a lighthearted atmosphere where he can, with a sense of humor and a supportive attitude to lift the spirits of those around him. Occasionally his playful sense of humor reflects something more sinister underneath. Though Shrimptail usually avoids saying anything disparaging to others, he has a terribly cynical view of the world and himself—and more than that, he's constantly paranoid, and unreasonably so.
[elaborate on paranoia]

History:
Shrimpkit was born in a litter of three to a young, athletic mother who was eager to return to her duties as a fighter. Shrimptail's father was rarely seen in the nursery, with little love between the two and even less between him and his kits. Perhaps he was disappointed with the litter; looking back on it, Shrimptail sometimes wonders whether that was the case, now that he's grown.
From kithood, Shrimpkit's two sisters were quicker and stronger than he. Were it not for their company, he might have had a much less pleasant childhood; as it was, the strongest of the three was always sticking up for her siblings when their mother was absent, and though Shrimpkit forged few bonds outside of his littermates—he lagged behind in many games with the other kits, and began to hang back more and more as others grew closer—he would occupy himself observing the cats around him and playing on his own or with his siblings.
At two moons, a bout of Whitecough spread to several kits, and Shrimpkit was among the first to catch it. His symptoms grew in severity quickly and led him to act even more reclusive for the lethargy caused by the sickness. Soon after his symptoms started showing, his sisters followed suit. The first sister to start showing the symptoms was Turtlekit. She was average in constitution, but calm in personality for a kit; she would hang back with her brother more often than the others, frequently spending time around him and with the meeker kits her age and below, trying to imitate the adults around her—though her own mother seemed immune to her attempts. The second sister to fall ill, Coralkit, was the strongest in the litter.
To the relief of all, most kits recovered before the sickness could deepen to Greencough; the majority of those in the nursery who caught it were close to becoming fledglings, with their immune systems already relatively effective when they first fell sick.
Shrimpkit and his sisters were not so fortunate. Coralkit managed, miraculously, to follow the older kits in her recovery soon after. She remained weakened, but at least she would not catch it from her littermates again. Shrimpkit's days were a blur as the fever worsened; others feared he wouldn't make it, with the frailty he had shown up to that point and the severity of the symptoms. When he did begin to recover, he remembers quite clearly his dread and confusion at one of the bodies beside him.
Everyone was shocked that Turtlekit had been the one to die between the two.
Later, Shrimptail would conclude that he must have been the one to pass it on to his siblings, and that, were it not for him, Turtlekit might not have died. It was no wonder his mother seemed resentful of him.
The remaining two only grew closer when they became apprentices. Shrimppaw had a strict mentor, and was forced to quickly learn patience and timing; he improved at tracking, hunting, climbing—and, eventually, managed to work up enough muscle to become decent at fighting and running. He remained poor at these, but was able to keep up with his peers and, finally, to receive his name alongside his one remaining sibling.
